Waterworks was chosen from a group of world-class competitors to build two sewage treatment plants in the war torn province of Kosovo in Yugoslavia. The plants receive wastewater from the two largest NATO bases in the U.S. patrolled sector of Kosovo. Kellogg, Brown and Root Services of Houston, Texas, suppliers of civil support to the U.S. Army for decades, contracted Waterworks to fulfill their requirements – to meet the same treatment standards that would be required in the United States.
Waterworks supplied a compact design that allowed all the components of the wastewater plants to be shipped completely within standard 40 ft. shipping containers. Even with a challenging 90 day schedule for design, fabrication, shipping, and installation (in sub zero temperatures), Waterworks was able to commission one plant 20 days ahead of schedule and the second exactly on time. Waterworks proved their ability to deliver results on time, in remote locations, and especially under difficult conditions.
The two plants have daily treatment capacities of 1,200 m3/day and 2,400 m3/day respectively. The use of standard design components in the Waterworks inventory allowed construction of three identical TFEA systems, one for the smaller project and the other two for the larger site.

Plant effluent was disinfected before discharge to storage lagoons. Ongoing U.S.Army testing revealed the effluent from both plants was far superior to design expectations (COD less than 10 mg/l in many tests), surpassing all performance expectations.
Final treated effluent is stored in two aerated storage cells where it is recycled for irrigation and dust abatement.
