At the Silver Star Ski Resort near Vernon, BC, Waterworks installed a complete wastewater system to enable expansion and increased profitability. Through a separate company, Silverhawk Utilities, the entire operation is operated and managed as a utility.
The wastewater is collected from the mountain and piped to the wastewater treatment plant through a 3 km long, 250 mm diameter piping system.
The wastewater treatment system incorporates primary screening, a trickling filter extended aeration unit, and an exfiltration pond. Silverhawk Utilities also owns the entire sanitary sewer system, sewage treatment system, storage reservoir, and all related operating equipment. As a utility Silverhawk is responsible for all billing, government reporting, and permitting for upgrades.
